I would like to thank all of my students and parents for making this a fabulous and successful year for our class! I have enjoyed teaching each student, some of you for two years, and I wish you the best in middle school!

Spring Cleaning

Do you want new school supplies for your first year in middle school? Does your family have extra school supplies that they will not be using? Pencils, pencil sharpeners, paper, glue, scissors, erasers, folders, rulers, etc. Gleason is accepting school supply donations to support future Gleason Tigers in the coming years. Don't throw away any unwanted supplies...send them back to school! Thank you for all of your support!

Water Wise

Today in class we learned more about how water effects our lives and where we interact with water outside of school. Each student recieved a Water Wise kit, a Student Guide and a Student Workbook to complete activities at home to further investigate water. These activities are optional and no materials must be returned. If a student completes the activities, all that is required is a note from a family member explaining what activities they completed and the student will recieve a Water Wise wristband and a 10 dollar Tiger Buck. This is just a fun way to get the whole family involved in the investigation. Enjoy!!

STAAR Science

The day is finally here! After a year of hard work, we will be taking the STAAR Science test tomorrow! Please make sure you eat a big, healthy dinner and get a good night's sleep. Review over your Science Study Guide and Science Journal. No need to bring your backpacks...just a lunch if you need it and a positive attitude! We are going to do our best and ROCK THE STAAR!!

Gleason Carnival Auction Basket

The Gleason Carnival will be held Saturday, April 14 from 2:00-7:00 pm. Our class is donating a basket for the auction and our theme this year is "Espresso Yourself!" States Quiz Redo

If students feel like they can do better on the States Quiz than they did this week, they will be given a second chance in two weeks. On Wednesday, February 29 during recess, students can choose to retake the quiz in Mrs. Knight's room. This retake will NOT be mandatory for any child - it is their decision! The higher of the two grades will then be recorded as their final grade in the gradebook.

Science CBA

Our Science CBA is Thursday, January 26, 2012. This test will cover all of the material students are responsible for learning in 5th grade (Parts 1-6). However, the grade for class will only cover the questions we have learned about so far this year in class (Parts 1-4).

According to The Weather Channel, both days will be in the low 70's with 20% precipitation. Please check the weather the night before/morning of your Nature Trails trip for any updates or changes.

Fifty Nifty United States

Changes to the Earth's Surface lab

Our students participated in a lab today observing changes to the Earth's surface. Ask your student to explain the difference between the following two pictures using words like water absorption, run-off, erosion, deposition, river, glacier, delta, etc.
